Chinese raw materials solve Russia's daily chemical supply problem

2025-08-18

Amidst increasingly fierce competition in Russia's personal care market, a well-known daily chemical company faced a long-standing raw material supply dilemma. European suppliers of ethylene glycol monostearate (EGMS) faced high prices, while Indian alternatives suffered from quality fluctuations, leaving the company's products in a difficult position.

In early 2021, the company partnered with Toon Chemicals through a global supply chain optimization project, fully replacing its existing supply chain with Toon Chemicals' EGMS. This shift yielded significant results within six months: production costs for its flagship shower gel products were reduced, market share increased, and its high-end shampoo, with its consistent pearlescent effect and excellent wash experience, successfully entered the high-end supermarket channel in Eastern Europe.

Toon Chemicals' EGMS, through molecular structure optimization and process innovation, exhibits numerous technical advantages. Its low-temperature crystallization control technology enables the product to form a regular lamellar structure in shower gels, enhancing pearlescent intensity and reducing batch variability.

The product also features enhanced low-temperature tolerance, effectively addressing winter storage and transportation challenges in Russia. It maintains a stable crystal structure during temperature cycling tests, avoiding the roughness common in traditional products.

In addition to its pearlescent effect, this raw material also provides viscosity adjustment and skin feel enhancement. It can replace a portion of the primary surfactant in SLES-based shampoos and reduce the amount of emulsifying wax in shower gels, improving post-wash skin smoothness.

By utilizing in-house produced stearic acid and a continuous esterification process, this raw material achieves superior price competitiveness compared to European alternatives. Furthermore, by maintaining port inventory, the risk of supply chain disruptions is effectively mitigated.

Toron Chemicals has developed a customized service system tailored to the unique Russian market environment, including addressing pearlescent degradation caused by hard water, providing low-temperature crystallization control technology, compatibility solutions for local raw materials, and ensuring product compatibility with pasteurization processes.

This collaboration demonstrates that through technological innovation and supply chain optimization, Chinese raw material companies can provide competitive solutions to international clients, helping them achieve breakthroughs in the fiercely competitive market.
