Chinese chlorinated rubber helps Chile reduce infrastructure costs and increase

2025-08-18

As a global mining powerhouse and a key infrastructure market, Chile is experiencing growing demand for high-performance anti-corrosion coatings and road marking paints. A leading Chilean coatings company faced a supply shortage of core raw materials for major national projects, including copper mines and ports.

The company's original use of imported chlorinated rubber products resulted in a high raw material cost-to-asset ratio. Furthermore, fluctuations in the European supply chain led to extended lead times, creating production uncertainty. Furthermore, existing products were not fully adapted to the unique high-altitude and UV-intensive environments of the Andes Mountains.

In 2024, the company launched a raw material localization strategy. After rigorously screening global suppliers, it ultimately selected chlorinated rubber products from Chinese companies to fully replace imported products. This shift yielded significant results within six months, reducing raw material costs and increasing the gross profit margin of its anti-corrosion coatings products.

Leveraging the industrial chain advantages of its Chinese production base, the chlorinated rubber products achieved superior price competitiveness compared to imported products. Strategic port warehouse reserves and diverse transportation options effectively ensured stable supply.

After this transformation, the Chilean company successfully won a bid for an anti-corrosion project for the Chilean National Mining Company, increasing its market share in road coatings and sustaining growth in its export business. The company also won bids for key national projects, including the reconstruction of Chile's Highway 5.

This collaboration demonstrates that through technological innovation and supply chain optimization, Chinese chemical companies can provide international customers with competitive solutions, helping them establish a sustainable competitive advantage in infrastructure construction and industrial protection.

The continued development of Chile's infrastructure has created new opportunities for the coatings industry. With the advancement of more major projects, market demand for high-performance anti-corrosion coatings and road marking coatings is expected to continue to grow.
